We are thrilled to invite you to the upcoming Education Workshop on Safe Learning: Bridging the Gap Between Learning Partners, crafted for life sciences educators who are passionate about equitable, student-centered teaching. Jointly organized by the FEBS Education and Training Committee, the Turkish Biochemical Society, and İzmir University of Economics, the workshop will take place 28 February – 2 March 2025, at Izmir University of Economics, Izmir, Türkiye.

Leanne Williams: In-Class Strategies and Instructional Design
PhD, University of Nottingham | Academic Lead at LearnSci & Professor at University of Warwick. Leanne specializes in educational methodologies and student-centered design. She offers practical, actionable strategies for fostering interactive and supportive learning environments, ensuring classroom experiences are engaging and impactful.
Steve Rutherford: Student-Centered Assessment: Assessment Design to Support Learning
PhD in Biology & MA in Education, Open University | Senior Lecturer, Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd. Steve’s expertise lies in assessment design that supports genuine student growth. His sessions focus on equitable methods to enhance learning outcomes and encourage student engagement.
Marco Antonio Carvalho Filho: Guiding Students in Reflective Practices
Marco Antonio Carvalho Filho holds a PhD in Internal Medicine from Universidade Estadual de Campinas and is a Full Professor of Health Profession Education at the University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen. He brings a reflective approach to education, emphasizing the importance of introspection in student development. His session will guide educators on integrating introspective practices into their teaching, empowering students to engage deeply with their own learning processes.
Robert Harris: Getting the Most Out of a PhD Education
PhD, Molecular Biology, UCL | Professor, Karolinska Institutet. Robert draws on his extensive experience to optimize the PhD journey for students. His sessions will focus on how to be MAD in post-graduate education. MAD of course stands for "making a difference".
This workshop, organized by the FEBS Education and Training Committee, Turk Biyokimya Derneği (Turkish Biochemical Society), and Izmir University of Economics, will be an exceptional opportunity to gain fresh insights, develop actionable teaching strategies, and connect with peers who are also committed to fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments.
