This talk is an activity from the FEBS Junior Section, an initiative set up by students and young researchers from some of the FEBS Constituent Societies. Each month members of the FEBS Junior Section organize an online event on either a research or a career topic. This talk was coordinated by the junior section of the Hungarian Biochemical Society (MBKE).

Biosketch

Dr. Beáta Lontay is an Associate Professor at the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Medicine, in the Department of Medical Chemistry (Debrecen, Hungary). With a career spanning over two decades in molecular and cell biology, Dr. Lontay has established herself as a researcher in the fields of protein phosphatases, muscle adaptation, and cellular signaling. Her career is marked by significant international collaborations, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University (USA), where she researched muscle responses during pregnancy, and early career research at the University of Nevada, Reno and University of Calgary, Canada. Dr. Lontay is currently serving as the Secretary General of the Hungarian Biochemical Society, and she plays a role in the European scientific landscape through her work with FEBS, where her involvement is closely linked to her leadership in the Hungarian national society. She organizes regional and international FEBS meetings and supports early-career research through the Hungarian FEBS Junior Section. She also serves as the Secretary of the Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Cell Biology Scientific Board of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, leads several educational programs at the university and also worked as the Secretary of the Doctoral School of Molecular Medicine.
