On the 10th of February 2026, FEBS Open Bio hosted a free webinar titled "Tumor-Stroma Interactions: A Roundtable Discussion". This event was held to accompany our recent ‘In the Limelight’ special issue on Tumor-Stroma Interactions and brought together leading researchers to explore how the tumor microenvironment and associated components influence tumor growth, metastasis, and response to treatment.

The session was chaired by Prof. Isabel Fabregat Romero (TGF-β and Cancer Group, Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) and CIBEREHD, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona), and featured contributions from authors of the special issue. Together, the panel explored the dynamic crosstalk between tumor cells and their surrounding stroma and highlighted the importance of considering tumors as part of complex and evolving systems.

The session covered key aspects of tumor-stroma crosstalk, including a focus on stromal mechanics, the dual role of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), and advances in 3D in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment. Thoughtful questions from the attendees prompted a lively discussion that highlighted the increasing relevance of the tumor-stroma crosstalk in cancer research.

We thank all those who attended and invite you to explore our special issue on Tumor-Stroma Interactions to learn more. If you are interested in reading more original and valuable publications on cancer biology, we encourage you to explore our dedicated Cancer Section.
