Update! Watch the recording of this talk.
The students and young scientists of the FEBS Junior Section have launched the "Scientific publishing: expanding boundaries towards excellence" online talk series in collaboration with the FEBS Press journals. The talk series is aimed at advancing early-career scientists and students towards excellence in scientific publishing and research integrity. The talks will be given by members of the Editorial offices of the FEBS Press journals. During the talks, participants will have a chance to learn from experts, enhance their knowledge in the field and ask questions.
Speaker: Duncan Wright, Managing Editor, FEBS Open Bio, FEBS Press.
Topic: "Ethics of peer review"

Talk summary and speaker biosketch
Peer review is the cornerstone of high-quality scholarly publishing, and thus facilitating the peer review process is the primary function of scientific journals. As a researcher, it is very important to be aware of the ethical considerations associated with (i) manuscripts sent for peer review and (ii) your role as a peer reviewer. It is also important to be familiar with the limitations of peer review when reading the literature. In this talk, I will discuss these ethical considerations from the perspective of a professional editor.
Duncan Wright is the Managing Editor of FEBS Open Bio, an open access journal for the publication of research and review articles in the molecular life sciences. He formerly worked on the journal Molecular Oncology, which is also owned by FEBS. Prior to joining FEBS Press, Duncan worked at Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, where he completed postdoctoral training on chromatin in yeast in the laboratory of Prof. Cheng-Fu Kao. His PhD studies on the effect of alternative splicing on the electrophysiological properties of the voltage-gated sodium channel in Drosophila were completed in the laboratory of Prof. Richard Baines at the University of Warwick, UK.
