On the 18th of June 2026, FEBS Open Bio hosted a free webinar titled "Cellular Senescence: A Roundtable Discussion". This event was held to accompany our recent ‘In the Limelight’ special issue on Cellular Senescence and brought together leading researchers to explore key advances in cellular senescence research, including accurate detection in vivo, changes in intercompartmental communication, and the role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence.

The session was chaired by Dr. Dimitris Kletsas (NCSR "Demokritos", Greece), and featured contributions from authors of the special issue. Together, the panel explored the diverse roles of senescent cells in ageing, tissue homeostasis, and disease progression.

The session covered a range of major developments within the field, including the need for comprehensive multi-omic approaches for accurate in vivo detection, the interplay between metabolic dysregulation and senescence in neuronal health, and the rise of senolytics in anti-aging treatment. Thoughtful questions from the attendees reflected the strong interest and increasing relevance of senescence across ageing and disease.

We thank all those who attended and invite you to explore our special issue on Cellular Senescence to learn more.
