PhD student, UMIB/ICBAS - UP

I hold a BSc (2011) and a MSc (2013) in Biomedical Sciences obtained at the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal. From 2014 to 2016, I have worked as a Software Engineer at Accenture Technological Solutions, in Lisbon, Portugal. I have joined the Sertoli Cell and Gamete Biology group in September 2016, to work on a research project in the role of glycerol and its metabolism in the testicular cells, particularly in Sertoli Cells, under supervision of Pedro F. Oliveira. In 2017, I have enrolled the PhD programe on Biomedical Sciences, at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal (ICBAS-UP), under supervision of Marco G. Alves. My main research interests are the metabolic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying paternally-induced transgenerational effects of high-fat diets in male fertility and metabolic health.

Keith Elliott

Member, FEBS Education Committee

I spent 40 years teaching and researching, and developed a particular interest in education and career development. I chaired the Education Committee and was Careers advisor for the UK Biochemical Society. In these roles, and my work with students at the University of Manchester, I realised how important it is for young scientists to recognise their skills and be able to "sell" themselves to potential employers (and grant awarding bodies). I now run CV support sessions for young scientists on behalf of the FEBS Education Committee, of which I was a founder member.
