The Nordic EMBL Partnership is now seeking doctoral researchers in molecular medicine
The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine is a joint venture between the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Universities of Helsinki/Finland, Oslo/Norway, Umeå/Sweden, and Aarhus/Denmark.
Molecular medicine covers a wide field of interdisciplinary research aimed at revealing the mechanistic basis of health and disease and at defining new treatment strategies. The Nordic EMBL Partnership tackles some of the biggest challenges in the field today by focusing on precision medicine, infection, cancer and neurological disorders. Each institute brings a unique set of expertise and opportunities in molecular medicine and life science research, complementing each other and the recognised research strengths of EMBL.

Fostering the next generation of scientists in a strong partnership with complementary strengths
Since its inception in 2007, the Nordic EMBL Partnership is a dynamically evolving and outstanding example of effective and sustainable collaboration. It comprises of four excellence centres; the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), the Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM), the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) and the Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience (DANDRITE), which all work in partnership with EMBL and its outstations across Europe.
DANDRITE, Aarhus, Denmark - Translational Neuroscience: An interdisciplinary research centre of neuroscience at Aarhus University that combines molecular and circuitry neuroscience with animal models and translational neuroscience. PhD positions are advertised through general open calls four times a year.

FIMM, Helsinki, Finland - Molecular Medicine: An international institute for human genomics and personalised medicine at HiLIFE/University of Helsinki that integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures and promotes translational research. Seeking applications in Molecular Medicine and Life Sciences while the call if open (11 February 2024).

MIMS, Umeå, Sweden - Molecular Infection Medicine: An international institute at Umeå University that enhances the dynamic field of molecular infection biology and medicine. Research at MIMS focuses in particular on how viruses, bacteria and parasites cause disease and how their hosts respond to infection. Information on PhD and Postdoc positions is posted regularly.

NCMM, Oslo, Norway - Molecular Medicine: A national research centre for molecular medicine at the University of Oslo that advances the molecular understanding of health and disease to facilitate improved medical practice and develop and adapt technologies for personalised medicine. The Partnership provides researchers at all levels with access to scientific collaborations, research infrastructure and training activities. Each centre is working in close collaboration with departments and faculties at their host university. Importantly, centres also serve as hubs in national networks, ensuring the broadest impact of investment in partnership research.
Fostering the next generation of life science researchers in the Nordics is one of the main pillars of the Partnership. Among supporting participation at workshops, courses and exchanges, a key highlight is the Young Investigator’s Meeting at the annual Nordic EMBL Partnership meetings. This is a dedicated part of the programme for early career researchers like PhD students and postdocs, to offer them a unique networking opportunity across the nodes and advance their skillsets with ever changing workshops.
“Embarking on my PhD journey just a few months ago, I never could have imagined that I would find myself presenting at the annual meeting of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. As an affiliate of DANDRITE, this conference marked a big milestone in my short academic career.
