This talk is an activity from the FEBS Junior Section, an initiative set up by students and young researchers from some of the FEBS Constituent Societies. Each month members of the FEBS Junior Section organize an online event on either a research or a career topic. This talk was coordinated by the BioBio Junior Section, the junior section of the Finnish Biochemical, Biophysics and Microbiology Society (BioBio).

Biosketch

Adjunct professor Kirsi Rautajoki leads the Cancer Regulation and Immunology research group at Tampere University, Finland. The group investigates how immunosuppression is generated and maintained in the tumor microenvironment, and how altered epigenetic and gene regulation drive malignancy and cellular plasticity in brain tumors. Kirsi Rautajoki is also the co-founder and chair of Finnish Brain Tumor Research Association (FiBTRA), an initiative that fosters collaboration between researchers and other experts across basic, technical, and clinical fields related to central nervous system tumor research.

Abstract

As the co-founder and chair of the Finnish Brain Tumor Research Association (FiBTRA), adjunct professor Kirsi Rautajoki will share the story of FiBTRA’s establishment from the ground up. She will highlight the association’s mission, development, and key activities. The talk will also explore the values and ideas that inspired its creation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in tackling both scientific and societal challenges.
