With the 48th FEBS Congress just around the corner, we’re excited to share 7 tips to make the most of this cross-disciplinary gathering in the molecular life sciences.
- Set Clear Goals Ask yourself what you want to achieve. Are you there to learn new techniques, network with peers, meet your heroes, initiate new collaborations, or showcase your work? Having clear intentions will guide your actions.
- Plan Your Schedule Study the conference program and pick the sessions that align with your research and sound interesting. Follow the conference hashtag on Twitter, and don’t forget to check out special sessions and the social programme! Don’t forget to budget some time for rest, too.
-
Stay up to date with the Congress App The FEBS Congress app is a great companion for your time in Milano. with searchable abstracts, floor plans, and exhibitor information to help you make the most out of the congress. The FEBS app can also be used to create your own Congress schedule, take notes, message other app users and contribute to the event social feed.
- Network, network, network . The social side of a conference is just as important as the scientific content. Networking at larger conferences can feel intimidating, regardless of which career stage you are in, especially so if you don’t know anybody else attending! But it’s important to remember that a lot of people with be in the same situation. Approaching people can lead to long-lasting friendships and collaborations, and you may even get to speak to titans in your field (including a few Nobel prize winners if this is your jam!) or discover new career opportunities.
- Meet the Editors! (we’re a friendly bunch) Take the opportunity for an informal chat with The FEBS Journal Editors, as well as our colleagues from other FEBS Press titles. You will learn about the journals and their activities, and you can discuss your research and potential submission with an Editor in a one-to-one fashion.
- Prioritize Your Well-Being Conferences can be intense, so it’s important to check in with yourself. Schedule breaks to decompress and reenergise. Remember, it’s okay to step out for a breather and return refreshed and ready to engage.
