Hello, everybody. This is a motivational letter to invite all of you attending to the 19th FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum (19th FEBS YSF). Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher and I have participated in many of these kind of meetings for young scientists’, and trust me, they are an excellent opportunity for all of us.
It is common knowledge that to participate in national and international conferences is very important in our scientific training and careers. Most of these massive meetings can be stressful, with lots of talks to listen and hundred posters to visit. Many people would desirea friendlier atmosphere to discuss their results surrounded by familiar faces. If this is your case, the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum is your place.
I remember specially one meeting for young researchers. During my second year of doctoral thesis, I participated in a congress organized for young people that took place in La Alberca, a small but very beautiful village in Salamanca (Spain). We predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers participated in this meeting. We could meet other young students of our field, with whom to share experiences and, after a couple of days, even become friends. Since then, I always have company at any meeting I attend. In addition, I could listen to talks of prestigious scientists at international level and I had the opportunity to moderate a scientific session. I even won a poster contest! On the other hand, I visited nearby towns of the province of Salamanca I did not know, we went hiking and we did adventure sports, all organized by the hosting committee. Nevertheless, one of the most important things I could do were the relationships I established. One of them, gave me the opportunity to apply for my current position at the Institute of Neuroscience of Castilla y León (Salamanca, Spain).
So, as you could read, the 19th FEBS YSF is an opportunity you cannot miss. Krakow (Poland), the host city, is the Royal Capital City and necropolis of Polish kings. The meeting has been organized ‘by young scientists for young scientists’ and you have the chance to apply for a participation grant (including accommodation and most travel costs). Do not hesitate and I hope to see you soon in Krakow.
