The FEBS Congress 2026: support schemes to help participation
The 50th FEBS Congress, hosted by the Netherlands Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NVBMB), will be held 4–8 July 2026 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Registration and abstract submission are now open for this milestone edition of the FEBS Congress.
In addition to the Congress offering registration fee reductions for early registration and for all younger scientists, the following FEBS support schemes are available for members of FEBS Constituent Societies:
FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum
The FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum (YSF) is a special event for about 100 selected PhD students and postdocs, held just before the FEBS Congress. Participants present their own research work, take part in career skills sessions, and can hear and meet keynote lecturers. But did you know that YSF participants also go on to experience the ensuing FEBS Congress? Participation of the selected YSF applicants at both the YSF and FEBS Congress is supported by YSF grants.
Find out all about the 25th edition of the FEBS YSF, taking place 2–4 July 2026 in Wageningen, the Netherlands, and how to apply, in the YSF section of the Congress website.
The FEBS YSF 2026 application deadline is 10 December 2025.
FEBS Congress bursaries
Early-career researchers presenting their work at the 50th FEBS Congress may be eligible to apply for a FEBS bursary to support participation.
FEBS bursaries aim to help PhD students and postdocs (within 5 years of receiving their PhD) from outside the host country participate in a FEBS Congress when submitting an abstract to the event as first author. For the FEBS Congress 2026, FEBS bursaries will cover the ‘Young scientist’ early registration fee, and make a €450 contribution towards travel/accommodation.
Full details on eligibility and how to apply are on the FEBS bursaries page of the Congress website.
The FEBS bursaries application deadline is 13 February 2026.
FEBS Congress Mathias Sprinzl scheme
The FEBS Congress Mathias Sprinzl scheme aims to encourage active participation in the Congress of scientists from FEBS Constituent Societies in Hinari (Research4Life) countries in the FEBS area (Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Morocco, Tunisia, Ukraine) – by providing a 50% reduction in the early registration fee of selected applicants presenting their research work at the event.
The scheme is for PhD holders who are submitting an abstract to the Congress as first author and are not eligible for FEBS Congress bursaries.
Find more information on the Sprinzl scheme page of the Congress website. There are also a small number of Sprinzl travel grants available.
The Sprinzl application deadline is 13 February 2026.
