On the evening of 24 September 2021 the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) celebrated the European Researchers’ Night with an online event. The event had to be online one more year, to accommodate ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
Under the title of “Plants' superpowers", an engaging lecture given by Dr Pilar Cubas from the Centro Nacional de Biotecnologia-CSIC was followed by two workshops, delivered by young members of SEBBM.
SEBBM has added English subtitles to the recordings of the two workshops and has made them available to encourage and support science communication activities among visitors to the FEBS Network Outreach Room.
Sourdough workshop – SEBBM European Researchers Night 2021. A short workshop showing how to make sourdough and using this to introduce the process of fermentation.
Chromatography workshop – SEBBM European Researchers Night 2021. A workshop showing how to use paper chromatography to extract chlorophyll from spinach leaves and using this to explain the process of photosynthesis.
The European Researchers’ Night in Madrid is supported by a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action awarded as part of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme, under the grant agreement number 101036010.
