FEBS Press is happy to announce a new partnership with Dryad, a community-based, not-for-profit open data publishing platform that enables curation, open sharing, and reuse of research data.

As a firm advocate for open science, FEBS Press expects data supporting the results in a published paper to be archived in an appropriate public repository. By integrating Dryad in the submission system of our journals, we aim to facilitate this process for our authors.

Dryad is particularly well suited for broad-scope and interdisciplinary data. Submitted data is curated by professionals, at no extra cost to the authors, ensuring that quality standards are met. Dryad curators evaluate each dataset, including research metadata and related objects, to verify that data are accessible, organised, intelligible, and complete to ensure ease of re-use. Curators work with researchers to confirm that data are appropriate for open sharing, follow FAIR principles, and meet ethical standards for publication. They also offer guidance on best practices for creating reusable data and help authors navigate publication requirements. Once published, the data will receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and will be made available under a Creative Commons Public Domain License (CC0), in compliance with funder mandates. Most importantly, the data will be permanently stored, which guarantees that it will remain freely available, reusable and citable. Furthermore, datasets will be linked to the published article, which will ultimately enhance the visibility of the article.

“We are certain that the integration of Dryad in our publishing workflow will ensure the trustworthiness and reproducibility of large datasets connected to the articles published in our journals”, says Daniela Ruffell, FEBS Press Publisher. “We are delighted to partner with Dryad to achieve this.”

Dryad’s Executive Director, Jennifer Gibson, adds: “By integrating Dryad into the publication workflow, FEBS Press is providing crucial support to authors in sharing their data. As the demand for data-sharing and reuse grows, we must make it as easy as possible for researchers to participate. We are so pleased to welcome FEBS and the prestigious FEBS Press to the community of societies, publishers and institutions supporting researchers in this way.”
