BIOmolekularec 2024 (The Day of Biomolecular Sciences) was a landmark event, bringing together over 150 experts, researchers, educators, and students from the world of biomolecular sciences. This year's gathering explored a broad range of topics, from the latest breakthroughs in genomic research to the development of novel therapeutic approaches. The event featured insightful presentations across various themes, including:
- Human Genome Exploration: Presentations focused on leveraging genomic data to enhance diagnostic tools and discover new genetic insights.
- Biochemical Markers and Genetic Polymorphisms: Discussions highlighted the identification of novel biomarkers linked to specific diseases, such as Fabry Nephropathy, marking significant progress in personalized medicine.
- Innovative Therapeutics: Researchers presented cutting-edge work on new compounds aimed at improving cognitive function in animals and treatments for diseases affecting the central nervous system.
- Environmental and Microbial Science: The role of microbiota, natural compounds, and microorganisms in health was also explored, showcasing the importance of microbial interactions in environmental sustainability and human health.
In addition to the scientific talks, the event featured student research presentations, offering a platform for young scientists to showcase their innovative work. Topics ranged from stress and mental health studies to the development of biomaterial composites for bone implants, reflecting the diverse nature of current scientific inquiry.
A special highlight of the event was the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of FEBS, an organization that has played a key role in advancing biochemistry and molecular biology across Europe. This milestone added a meaningful dimension to the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in scientific progress.
The Slovenian Biochemical Society extends its sincere gratitude to FEBS for their generous financial support of this event, which made it possible to bring together such a dynamic community of researchers, educators, and students. The Society also thanks all the speakers, presenters, and participants for their contributions, which helped make BIOmolekularec 2024 a resounding success. We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence in biomolecular science and are already planning for next event, which will further promote knowledge exchange and scientific innovation.
