The Early-Career Advisory Group (ECAG) is a diverse committee of early-career researchers from across the globe, who influence and support eLife’s work to catalyse broad reform in the evaluation and communication of science. The group (and their new members) represents the needs and aspirations of researchers at the early stages in their careers working towards a research culture that is healthy for science and for scientists.
The 13 members, alongside those who are now alumni, work closely with journal staff and editors to shape and direct the eLife new model of science publishing, alongside:
- Increasing the involvement of early-career researchers in peer review
- Increasing equity, diversity and inclusion in eLife’s communities
- Identifying and addressing bias in the publishing process
- Increasing openness and integrity in the way science is conducted and shared
With these aims in mind, the ECAG have decided to host a webinar for early-career researchers (ECRs) that will look at the first six months of the new model of publishing at eLife. Attendees will hear the quantitative updates on the submission data, and importantly hear from ECR authors and reviewers about their experience of publishing and reviewing in this new more open model of preprint and peer review. The floor will then be open for anyone attending to ask questions regarding the new model, publishing, peer review, and to discuss barriers ECRs face to publishing and solutions to overcoming these together.
