The authors of this work designed changes in the way of teaching their introductory biochemistry course in the life sciences curriculum. For this course, they had a history of poor student results. They decided to redesign their teaching program and methodology in order to introduce active learning and increase student participation in their learning process. When the resulting effects were measured, a continuous increase in the percentage of students who passed the course was evident. In addition, students appreciated the new methodology and attendance was also improved.
