The Swiss Young Immunologists Society (SYIS) was established in September 2020 to create an interactive network among young immunologists and to boost their visibility at a national (in collaboration with the Swiss Society for Allergology and Immunology (SSAI)) and European level (as part of the young European Federation of Immunology Societies (yEFIS) network). The SYIS team is currently entirely based on volunteers, including a board overseeing overarching objectives, complemented by smaller, dedicated working groups of active members tasked with specific roles.
Membership and activities
The SYIS welcomes scientists working in immunology-related fields with ties to Switzerland (e.g. Swiss nationality, working/study experience in Switzerland) within ten years of their last degree attainment, and currently counts over 230 members. SYIS members profit from access to the SYIS network (social media, newsletters) to share job offers, publications and other announcements, reduced conference fees (e.g. SYIS Annual Symposium) and eligibility for the SYIS Publication Award, SSAI and EFIS travel grants, and Acteria prices. Furthermore, the SYIS organizes an Annual Symposium to bring established and young researchers together and providing a platform for exchange with peers and networking possibilities. In addition, the SYIS Seminar Series gives insights into exciting research and career paths from immunologists across Switzerland. Organized in a hybrid format across different Swiss universities, these seminars are accessible for a wide audience online while providing the local opportunity for personal interactions with the speakers during an apero on site. Most recently, the SYIS has, in cooperation with the SSAI, established a mentoring program focusing on postdoc career development.
