In order to reward the work of its youngest members, the SEBBM annually announces the following research prizes:

IBUB Young Investigator Award 

IBUB (Biomedical Institute of the University of Barcelona) recognizes with € 2,500 the scientific work carried out in Spain by a SEBBM member under the age of 40. The winning candidate will deliver a lecture during the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019.

Young SEBBM Member´s Best Article Award

The SEBBM offers a first prize of € 1,000 and a second prize of € 500 to the best scientific article published in 2018 by a young member of the SEBBM working in Spain. Candidates must be the first author of the article and under the age of 32. The winning candidate will deliver a lecture during the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019.

Roche Award

Roche offers a first prize of € 600 and two second prizes of 200 € to the three best panel communications presented at the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019. Candidates must be SEBBM members, under the age of 31, and first author of the poster. Roche’s prizes will be awarded at the Closure and Award Ceremony of the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019.

José Tormo Award

Bruker Española offers a prize of € 1,000 to a young SEBBM member, under the age of 33, first author of a paper published during the biennium 2018-2019 in any of the disciplines included in structural biology. The candidate laboratory must be located in Spain or Portugal. The winning candidate will deliver a 15 minute lecture during the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019.

Eppendorf Award to the “Best Scientific Image of the Year”

The «Best Scientific Image of the Year» will be chosen from the images published every month in the “Science Art Gallery” section of the SEBBM´s website. The winner must be a SEBBM member and be registered in the Madrid 2019 Congress. The award consists of a € 600 grant to subsidize the winner’s registration to the Congress, as well as his/her travel and accommodation expenses. The Eppendorf Prize with be awarded at the Closure and Award Ceremony of the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019. The twelve photos participating in the contest will be exhibited during the Congress.

Margarita Lorenzo Award (sponsored by Lilly Foundation)

The SEBBM and the Lilly Foundation offer the Margarita Lorenzo Scientific Prize of € 2,000, in memory of Dr. Margarita Lorenzo, whose work of international prestige in the field of metabolism and insulin signalling is considered an example to be followed by the new generations of Spanish biochemists and molecular biologists. The award will recognize the best work presented at the SEBBM Congress by young members under the age of 35 in the thematic field of «Diabetes, obesity and metabolic regulation». The prize will be awarded by the president of the SEBBM and a representative of the Lilly Foundation in a plenary session of the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019, where the winner will deliver a 15-minute lecture.

Social Network Award

The SEBBM offers a prize of € 200 to the author of the poster that achieves the highest impact in social networks during the celebration of the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019. It will be an essential requirement to use the Congress hashtag (#SEBBM19) to quantify this impact. The Social Network Prize will be awarded at the Closure and Award Ceremony of the SEBBM Congress in Madrid 2019.
