Invitation

We believe that finding and enforcing what connects us is the most important part of building a community, and we believe that we, together, can contribute substantially to the development of field of transcription regulation and epigenetics.

Happy New Year for 2019!

Building up a community is not easy. It needs continuous engagement of people and effort to stay in the loop.

On the other hand communities and networks are a great source of energy, contacts, opportunities and even help when needed.

I had the privilege to meet recently people who were actively involved in building up extremely successful scientific communities in Europe. Based on a systematic evaluation of these communities it seems that these communities share some common features. You can find a summary of these features in the paper published by Aidan Budd, a former EMBL bioinformatician and Niklas Blomberg from ELIXIR, EBI, Hinxton together with their colleagues here.

We aim to enlarge the network of all of us, without increasing the email burden on our every day life and we were invited to build up a FEBS Research Room as a follow-up of our conference and as a tool to share with each other news, opportunities, conference and job announcements, bioRxiv manuscripts in our field and ask for input in the fields we are working on.

We would be more than happy to see announcements of workshops, conferences, meetings organized by room members and to share tools that can help both data generation, data analysis and data interpretation for successful publishing of our results. Everyone is invited to share best practices, ask for help, tutorials, or even advice in these crucial fields for becoming a successful scientist.

The room is currently open but we plan to turn it to an "invitation only" room once we passed the set-up phase. You will be able to reach a community of researchers from the epigenetics field from a very broad field. We had 229 attendees from 38 countries who attended the Danube Epigenetic Conference in 2016 or 2018. The room allows to share files with the group or one-by-one with members or even launch discussions on specific topics that will not result in an endless que of emails.

This space on the FEBS Network is an ‘open room’, meaning that all who visit the FEBS Network can view content. All participants at the 2018 Danube Conference are being invited to contribute to the room. Please first register on the site. Then, if you don’t see your name appearing in the room list here within a couple of days, please email [email protected] to request that. Adding a photo will help others recognize you. We invite you to share your important announcements as a start.

We believe that finding and enforcing what connects us is the most important part of building a community, and we believe that we, together, can contribute substantially to the development of field of transcription regulation and epigenetics.

Best regards,

Balint.
