To accompany our recent special issue on Bioplastics and Biopolymers, FEBS Open Bio is holding a free webinar entitled "Bioplastics and Biopolymers: A step closer towards environmental sustainability" on 29th September 2026 at 16:00 CEST (15:00 BST) for 45 minutes. Dr. Raffaele Porta (University of Naples Federico II, Italy), Dr. Valeria Giosafatto (University of Naples Federico II, Italy), and contributing authors will discuss the progress made in the search for sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-derived polymers.
The panel will explore the recent advances in bioplastic and biopolymer production, characterisation, and degradation. In particular, how renewable and waste-derived resources, polymer structure, end-of-life strategies, and microbial and enzymatic processes, can all be harnessed to develop more sustainable materials will be highlighted.
